## Walking Together: Songs for Solidarity ## This is an entry in the Walking Together songwriting contest. The WEF estimates there are over 150 million people without homes worldwide. This project is aimed at supporting efforts to help people "made of potential" out of homelessness in co-operation with Homeless Entrepreneurs. The winning song will be chosen as an anthem for HE's upcoming "Great Walk" and featured in a music video by David Israel. Bills stackin’ up like bricks in a wall, Every call I make’s just another closed door. (Hello?) Mind’s racin’, like a marathon I can’t win, Told the doc my story, but the system’s too thin. Every shadow moves, every sound’s a threat, And the cold concrete makes it hard to forget. Saw a man in a suit, couldn’t meet his eyes, He looked away quick like my pain’s a disguise. The world moves on; I’m a ghost in its wake, Invisible struggles, but the cracks still ache. (Still ache!) They say, “Just reach out,” but who do you call? When every hotline’s backed up or doesn’t care at all? So I drift, just me and my fractured mind, Lost in a maze that’s impossible to unwind. what’s left of a life when the future’s so bleak? (what's left on life?!) [Verse] Found a light in the dark, it caught my eye, A voice said, "Come in, no need to cry." (Come in!) They handed me a meal, asked about my name, Didn’t see judgment, didn’t feel shame. It wasn’t a cure, but it cracked the door, To a place where my pain ain’t ignored no more. A counselor spoke, said, "We’ve got a plan, It’s not a quick fix, but I’ll hold your hand." (Hold on.) A bed, some meds, a moment to breathe, For the first time in years, I could finally see. Hope’s a whisper, but it echoes loud, When someone believes you’re worth the crowd. (You’re worth it!) The cracks still exist, but I’ve found my grip, Climbing out slow, step by step, bit by bit.
