The Book of Maymihts Ahkehkt
[NARRATOR — SPOKEN VOICE ONLY] [DO NOT SING] Today we continue our journey through the Nemenhah Sacred Records with The Book of Maymihts Ahkehkt, son of Pahnah Tahnihts. Maymihts lived more than seven hundred years after the Peacemaker walked among the people. And his world was beginning to change. So before telling us where his people were going... Maymihts reminded them where they had come from. He preserved his family line through generations of Nemenhah history. Through Pahnah Tahnihts... Piahhohmeht... Tsihohnayah... Mohrhohnahyah... Tsihmlayi... Mahnti... Ohuhgohuh... and back through Hahgohtl. His family also carried the story of Night Voice Woman, whose people had fled oppression and joined themselves with the Nemenhah. Different peoples had become one family. But Maymihts preserved more than names. He preserved the Way. The sacred ordinances taught the people through symbols. Water taught cleansing and rebirth. Anointing pointed toward sanctification and the gifts of the Haymehnay. Laying on of hands taught sacred stewardship. The emblems reminded them of the Peacemaker. And sacred clothing reminded them to walk in righteousness. But the symbols were never the destination. They pointed toward something greater: The Way itself. A journey from darkness into light. A life centered upon the Peacemaker. Then the world around Maymihts began changing. The cold increased. Communities struggled. People began leaving familiar places. Some settlements were abandoned. Families moved in search of places where they could survive. Maymihts understood something important. Cities can disappear. Buildings can fall. Civilizations can change. But truth can travel. A record can travel. A covenant can travel. A family can travel. And the Way can travel with them. So he preserved the record. He taught the children. He remembered the covenants. And he pointed another generation toward the Peacemaker. That may be the great lesson of Maymihts. When the world around us changes... we do not have to lose the Way within us. Remember who you are. Remember those who walked before you. Remember what the ordinances are trying to teach. Preserve the truth for those who come after you. And above everything... walk the Way of the Peacemaker. [MUSIC GENTLY BUILDS] [BEGIN SINGING — VERY SHORT] Preserve the Way... Hold to the light... Teach our children... Walk in the right... Though kingdoms fall... Thy truth remains... Peacemaker... Lead the Way. [END]
