Rooftop in the Rain

[Verse 1] We climbed the fire escape at half past nine To steal a skyline that we couldn’t buy The city hummed like a bass guitar And you said "this feels just like who we are" [Verse 2] The rain came down but we didn’t run We let it tune us like a song undone Your mascara mixed with the midnight blue And I kissed the storm right off of you [Pre-Chorus] We were thunder dressed in Saturday best Two heartbeats trying to pass the test The world below was a million miles But up here we had the perfect style Meet me on the rooftop in the rain, darling Where the sky falls soft and the lights feel far We don’t need a roof when we’ve got the stars So dance with me on the rooftop in the rain[Chorus] [Verse 3] A saxophone cried from an open door Three floors down but we wanted more You spun once slow like you owned the air And the whole damn skyline stopped to stare [Pre-Chorus] We were thunder dressed in Saturday best Two heartbeats trying to pass the test The world below was a million miles But up here we had the perfect style Meet me on the rooftop in the rain, darling Where the sky falls soft and the lights feel far We don’t need a roof when we’ve got the stars So dance with me on the rooftop in the rain[Chorus] **** If the sun comes up and we’re still this way Let the city call it a holiday I’ll trade dry clothes for the chance to say I loved you best when the clouds turned grey[Bridge] Meet me on the rooftop in the rain, darling Meet me on the rooftop in the rain, darling[Final Chorus] And when the storm forgets our names We’ll still be dancing in the hurricane[Outro]
