FRANK 003 – Victor Frankenstein | Frankenstein
(Verse 1) They drew him from the ruin of the unforgiving ice, A wasted man still driven by one last consuming vice. The frozen air came faintly through the chambers of his breath, Yet purpose held his broken frame upon the edge of death. (Verse 2) He heard the captain speak of lands untouched by mortal name, Of knowledge wrested from the dark and crowned with deathless fame. Within those words he recognised the hunger and the scar, For once he too had sacrificed all love to reach too far. (Chorus) Victor Frankenstein had followed glory past the human sea, And found the chains of consequence where triumph ought to be. He warned the northern dreamer what ungoverned longing cost, Then opened all the buried years and named the lives he lost. (Verse 3) He watched the younger dreamer with the fever in his eyes, Still certain that a noble will could conquer earth and skies. The stranger saw the solitude beneath his need for friend, And knew how bright ambition hides the darkness at its end. (Verse 4) He gathered strength to speak at last and raise the buried tale, While ice pressed round the wooden walls and dawn arose in pale. His voice returned to childhood through the distance of the years, To name the first beginnings of his knowledge, guilt, and tears. (Chorus) Victor Frankenstein had followed glory past the human sea, And found the chains of consequence where triumph ought to be. He warned the northern dreamer what ungoverned longing cost, Then opened all the buried years and named the lives he lost. (Bridge) He once had sought creation as the measure of his name, But every secret conquered fed a more destructive flame. Now near the world’s last boundary, with one foot in the grave, He gave his ruined history as the only gift to save. (Outro) So Walton kept the vigil while the ice enclosed the shore, And Victor faced the life he could not silence any more. The Arctic held them listening through the everlasting night, As one man’s fallen greatness warned another from the light.
