The dewy kiss of morning Greet my soft, quiet steps. Along the winding path As I walk through blades of grass, Past alabaster Angels, frozen in hallowed prayer. Their ivory wings unfurled with reverent, devout care. Crimson peonies bow their heads, Black roses standing tall; Gargoyles keeping watch Over the misty wall. The emerald ivies glimmer In the dim morning light. As figures dance across my memory Of long forgotten nights. I come upon a watery mirror It’s surface smooth as glass. The face I see is one I knew from deep within my past. I knew those eyes, I’ve held their gaze so many times, and yet I’m set adrift, Lost within my mind. A fleeting image, A dispiriting tease, It’s blurry haze Just out of reach My heart yearns to hold it, To keep it selfishly, But it’s a dying ember, A long forgotten part of me. I murmur a song, a haunting melody. It’s whispering echoes endlessly. So long ago and far away I am but a distant memory. The ivies wither, the roses wilt The angels splinter in despondent guilt. The mirror cracks, the granite creatures crumble As golden rays pierce the shade And the silver moonlight fades I feel myself diminishing As the wind carries me away. Carries me away-----~~ Carries me away-----~~
