The promise here on Earth

V4.5-ALL

I walked through fire with my boots worn thin, chasin’ that tone that shakes me deep within. I crossed cold ice where the wild winds moan, still couldn’t find that promised, holy tone. My Tele cried out with a silver sting, but this note I need refused to sing. I’ve been in fire, I’ve been in ice, I’ve been down low and I’ve touched the skies. I’ve been in water and in the air alone, still I’m searchin’ for that one blessed tone that lifts me up from flesh and bone and brings its promise here on Earth to me. I dug through dirt where the old ghosts sleep, listened for a sound that cuts the silence deep. I soared through clouds where the angels roam, but none of them played that sacred tone. My Tele whispers like a faithful friend, but this note I need hides around the bend. I’ve been in fire, I’ve been in ice, I’ve been down low and I’ve touched the skies. I’ve been in water and in the air alone, still I’m searchin’ for that one blessed tone that lifts me up from flesh and bone and brings its promise here on Earth to me. Maybe it’s a spark in the midnight rain, maybe it’s a cry in a runaway train. Maybe it’s a truth that the blues folks know - this one tone can heal my broken soul. I’ve been in fire, I’ve been in ice, I’ve been down low and I’ve touched the skies. I’ve been in water and in the air alone, still I’m searchin’ for that one blessed tone that lifts me up from flesh and bone and brings its promise here on Earth to me.
