Have you ever had that dream, The kind that feels so real? I’ve dreamed the same old story, The same scene for fifty nine years. Have you ever had dreams that answer questions Dreams that tell you why Dreams that cause your heart to break Dreams that make your insides shake Oh, the dreams that come at night, The ones that make me hold you tight, The kind that make my head spin, The kind that help me win again. I love to dream when it’s good, Open my mind if I could, Wake up knowing where I stand, See the measure of a man. If it’s a bad dream, I just say, It’s only a dream, come what may. Pictures in my head, motions I can see, Colors and scenes, and the dreams meant for me. I never knew what dreams could hold, Or what they’d take from me. But sometimes peace comes softly In the place I cannot see. Dreams can take me far from here, To places I once knew. They show me things I lost in time, And things I never knew. But every dawn reminds me What’s real and what belongs, Still I carry all those dreams In the daylight in my songs.
