[Verse 1] Out on the porch in the evening glow, Kids with a tape recorder putting on a show. Making strange sounds, laughing so loud, The whole street could hear that raucous crowd. [Chorus] Mama said, "If you don't calm down, I'm gonna throw that tape recorder right out of town. Into the garbage, where it belongs, 'Cause I can't take one more of those crazy songs." [Verse 2] Squeals and screeches, alien tunes, Echoing out beneath the silver moon. Buttons clicking, rewinding it back, The chaos rolling like a runaway track. [Chorus] Mama said, "If you don't calm down, I'm gonna throw that tape recorder right out of town. Into the garbage, where it belongs, 'Cause I can't take one more of those crazy songs." [Bridge] But the kids just giggled, kept carrying on, Their little symphony of wild and wrong. Mama rubbed her temples, shook her head, "Y’all are gonna drive me to the edge," she said. [Verse 3] Finally, the batteries gave up the fight, The tape slowed down in the dim porch light. Mama sighed, "Peace at last, thank the Lord," But the kids begged for batteries she couldn’t afford.
