Episode 10: Summer Served Cold
夏休み、海岸線 潮風、サンダル、笑い声 クラス旅行のはずなのに 知らない顔がこっちを見てる (Summer vacation, the coastline Sea breeze, sandals, voices laughing This was supposed to be a class trip But an unfamiliar face is looking over at me) She stepped out beneath a black parasol Our new transfer student dressed for war The whole beach forgot the volleyball When she let her sunglasses fall She smiled directly at me Then mouthed a name nobody here should know 砂の城を覚えてる? 貝殻を半分ずつ 夕方まで遊んだこと 忘れたなんて言わせない (Do you remember the sandcastle? How we shared the seashells between us How we played until evening Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten) A buried summer surfaced whole: The crooked fort, the seashell crown The childhood friend who disappeared Had somehow followed me back to town She kicked a grill between us And placed two knives upon the board “Memories prove nothing. Settle it properly.” She carved the squid with funeral precision Black garlic folded into smoke I struck back with citrus, chili And a sauce the judges couldn’t quote Oil erupted from the skillet Festival drums accelerated Six professors tasted one spoonful And began speaking untranslated もっと熱く! もっと深く! 味で運命を決めましょう! (Hotter! Deeper! Let flavor decide our fate!) Her curry turned the daylight purple My noodles made the lifeguard kneel She seasoned every plate with vengeance I answered with another meal Then the heat stripped dye from her hair A matching birthmark met my eye Same face Same blood Same date on both our hospital files My childhood friend leaned close and whispered: “I’m also the evil one.” Well, at least I got a twin. She served the final plate in darkness I split the sauce with plum and flame One bite cracked the serving table The second made them scream my name The flavor struck the shoreline Clasps snapped in perfect time 水着が全部、爆発した! リボンもボタンも空を飛ぶ! (Every swimsuit exploded! Ribbons and buttons flew through the sky!) Every bikini detonated Fabric filled the summer sky Steam, beach towels, beams of sunlight Covered everything on cue Nobody remembered who had won The judges couldn’t find their clothes She stole my spoon Called me sister And booked the rematch after lunch
