So Easy to Pull Away

--- This was an interesting one to put together. Still going with grunge and wanted to hit "rock bottom" on the album. So went with a song that explored how easy it is to isolate from everyone and everything. The pandemic was the first domino to fall, and the singer withdraws from society, just communicating via the internet. They talk about the reality of a virtual life and begin to question if they should just unplug, and if they did . . . would anyone know? Originally, I was going for a mash up between Grunge and Shoegaze, but it just wasn't hitting the right vibe for what I wanted. Then I decided to go with a mashup of Grunge and essentially "Oasis", so Britpop. That's when it struck the right chord with me. The ending of the song is left vague as to how it really ends and what choice the singer makes . . . ~David --- [Musical Introduction] [Wash of reverb-drenched guitars, volume swells] [Slow, pulsing bass beneath the fog] [Drums enter softly, almost distant] [Verse 1] Six feet apart became a habit Then a comfort, then a wall Screens replaced the sound of breathing I don’t miss it much at all Every face reduced to pixels Every voice a typewritten sound It’s funny how alone you feel When everyone’s around [Pre-Chorus] I don’t remember when it started Just that it feels safe to stay inside [Chorus] It’s so easy to pull away Just fade into the glow Trade a name for a username And let the real me go It’s so easy to disappear Without a sound or trace If I just unplug tonight Would anyone miss my face? [Verse 2] “Friends” I’ve never shared a room with “Chats” that never touch my life We trade reactions, not emotions Truth reduced to likes I know their avatars by heart Their fears are still unknown They know me as a version I invented on my phone [Pre-Chorus] I scroll past everything that matters Till nothing matters anymore [Chorus] It’s so easy to pull away Let silence fill the gaps Call it peace, call it distance Call it learning how to detach It’s so easy to feel replaced By a better-lit disguise They’d miss "Grunge Man 1 2 8" But would they miss my life? [Musical Interlude] [Guitars bloom into thick shoegaze walls] [Vocals reduced to wordless hums buried in the mix] [Drums feel like a distant echo, not a pulse] [Bridge] What’s the point of conversation If no one really knows your name? What’s the cost of isolation If it all feels just the same? I don’t need to burn it down I don’t need to scream or shout I just need to ask the question What if I just… What if I just… [Breakdown] [Nearly whispered, buried under reverb] Unplug… Unplug… [Final Chorus] It’s so easy to pull away When the world feels far too loud When the quiet feels like shelter And the dark feels like a crowd It’s so easy to forget That there’s a body here inside If I vanish from the feed Would anyone notice I’m alive? [Lyrical Outro] [Distant, fading] I’m still here… I think… The cord... Is within reach... [Musical Ending] [Guitars slowly dissolve into pure ambience] [No hard ending — sound fades like signal loss]
