Lightningbug Lady of Bear Wallow Creek

[Verse 1] Down where the hemlocks whisper soft in June And the smoky mists rises to meet the moon A barefoot girl with a mason jar to seek The shimmering glow by Bearwallow Creek Her mama would call as the daylight died But Lynn stayed out where the night come alive She'd hold her breath, her eyes gone wide At a thousand lights blinking side by side [Chorus] Oh, they dance in time, a heartbeat bright A mountain miracle born of night No one believed what her eyes could see But the fireflies knew when they danced for free Now they whisper her name when the night turns sweet The lightning bug lady of Bearwallow Creek [Verse 2] Years rolled on like a mountain stream Lynn carried the truth of her childhood dream Told the world of the lights that gleam In the heart of June beneath Elkmont stream They said, "Child, that's just mountain talk" But she led them down that forest walk And when the night began to hum They stood in silence, overcome [Chorus] Oh, they dance in time, a heartbeat bright A mountain miracle born of night From the roots of home to the stars she'd speak The lightning bug lady of Bearwallow Creek [Bridge] Now cameras flash where the fireflies gleam But she still remembers that childhood dream A cabin light, a mother's call And magic that asked for nothing at all [Chorus] Oh, they still dance in time, a rhythm deep Like the breath of the mountain in summer's sleep If you find that glow where the shadows creep Thank the lightning bug lady Of Bearwallow Creek
