Once upon a bloody morning I met a man and he was calling For his true love to return I could see he was concerned After searching high and low We found her lifeless on the road He shook her but she didn’t move Her blood a signal to the truth A witness stopped and he told us She’d been killed by a band of soldiers Who sought to steal the ladies honour A weight of savages upon her She fought with all she had within her The soldiers angered so they killed her The man he turned his face away And whispered something to his lady All is lost as all is cost and all is taken from the honest My Empty hands hold all that’s left and I will join you in your rest He dried his tears he carried her away His sullen face was stiff as clay A hunchback crippled by her weight On the road to share her fate He carried her high up to the cliff He held her tight gave her one last kiss In their embrace he stepped to the edge Together they fell to fulfil his pledge All is lost as all is cost and all is taken from the honest My Empty hands hold all that’s left and I will join you in your rest Forever together but not on land Forever flying hand in hand
