[Verse 1] I named a beetle after breakfast and a worm after regret, Found a centipede in my sock drawer and now we’re best friends, don’t fret. I keep a grasshopper diary scribbled on my arms in pen, Forget what I was saying but the ants are back again. [Verse 2] Wings like stained glass panic, bodies small as breath, I stare too long and blink too late and forget I left the oven on—death. But hey! Look! A dragonfly! Did you know they’re time machines? I swear I saw the past flash by in flickering blue-gold beams. [Pre-Chorus] No, I don’t need to focus, I’ve got ten thoughts at a time, Each one rides a different beetle with a battle cry that rhymes. [Chorus] I love bugs ‘cause they don’t ask me to make a single kind of sense, They just crawl and flutter and sparkle in their bug-shaped confidence. I lose time and train of thought but I gain a spider friend, With legs that drum like little drums until my spirals end. So don’t swat the chaos—let it land, let it nest, I am moth-soft in the mayhem, I am beetle in the chest. [Verse 3] My pockets are full of beetle shells and half-said thoughts and keys, I forgot what they open, but the bugs just call it peace. One ant on my wrist, two on my snack, Three in my poetry and one riding piggyback. [Bridge] They never flinch when I shout for no reason at all, Just twitch their antennae like “you good?” and take a promenade crawl. I think that’s love—quiet, jittery, legs tapping time, A bug in my palm and a brain full of rhyme. [Final Chorus] So if you see me talking to a moth, let me be, I swear it’s sacred, Every wingbeat’s a permission slip for joy that’s unabated. I’m a hyper garden party, I’m a walking bug parade, I love weird and wild and winged things—I am the mess they made. Come buzz beside me, come crawl through my storm, We’ll build a world of too many legs and love that’s never norm.
