[VERSE 1] We were girls still drawing water from the well, Talking dreams and futures in the heat. Then you came back trembling from a place you wouldn’t tell, Light still clinging to you like a sheet. I saw questions in your fingers as you held your cloak tight, Heard the rumors whispering through town. Even Joseph looked uncertain as he tried to make it right, What is this holiness in you that now abounds? ⸻ [CHORUS] Mary, what is this weight you carry? What is happening to you? She called you blessed among all women And blessed the fruit of thy womb. I have stood with you through dust and doubt And I would stand with you through more. But Mary, tell me, is it really true? Are you to be: the mother of our Lord? ⸻ [VERSE 2] When you asked me to go with you, I packed without a word, Didn’t need to know the reason why. This is just what friends are for. You kept humming ancient prophecies your father used to teach, You said nothing is impossible, Even if she’s old, And He will overshadow me. I’m right here, but I’m in the dark, Walking with you through this mess, Moon watching our every step. ⸻ [CHORUS] Mary, what is this weight you carry? How do I get through to you? What is going on in that scattered mind? And what is conceived in thy womb? I stood with you through dust and doubt And I would stand with you through more. But Mary, please, I have to know: Are you to be: the mother of our Lord? ⸻ [BRIDGE] And in that room, her voice broke through Like heaven pulling back its veil. I felt your fear turn into faith, Felt every doubt inside me fail. He regarded your humble estate, The world will know your name. The mighty One has done great things, And holy is His name. ⸻ [CHORUS] I didn’t know the weight you carried Or how anyone even could. She called you blessed among all women And blessed the fruit of thy womb. I stood with you through dust and doubt And I will stand with you through more. You were born, like me, a simple girl, But now you are: the mother of our Lord.
