--- This one was interesting to put together . . . The persona is a mix of two vocals, so I was trying to get the female voice to shine. There is still a mix of both the female and male, but I think since Peer Pressure impacts both, it still works. Plus it feels like her vocals really are featured. The first gens of the song were "ok", but were missing that special "something" that made me really like it. So, I added in the trusty "emotional depth cello" . . . lol. That for me was the key ingredient for the song. It really worked well as a backing and musical interlude section. Really happy with the results and it's nice to added in a bit of a weighty subject to the otherwise really bright / upbeat album. ~David --- [Musical Introduction] [Music Build Up] [Verse 1 - Female Vocals - Almost Spoken] I learned to laugh at the right time Mirror the room, keep the peace in line Filed down edges I used to keep Now I don’t know what’s left of me I traded “strange” for acceptable Silenced thoughts, made ‘em forgettable Every “maybe I shouldn’t say…” Turned into words I threw away [soft piano enters] [Pre-Chorus - Female Vocals] And they liked me more this way… Or at least, they didn’t look away [Chorus - Fragile, Rising] Is this my voice or an echo I caught? Am I speaking… or just repeating the thought? I tried to fit till I faded out— Now I’m someone I don’t know about It started small… just a little deflection Now I’m lost in an inner peer infection [Verse 2- Female Vocals] I wear their words like they’re mine to keep But they don’t sound right when I try to sleep Every sentence feels rehearsed and thin Like I’m always standing just outside my skin I nod along when I disagree Bite my tongue till it forgets me And every silence I justify… Feels like another part of me died [Pre-Chorus - slightly more tension] If I peel it back, what will remain? Was I ever me… or just rearranged? [Chorus - Stronger, cracking at edges] Is this my voice or an echo I caught? Am I speaking… or just repeating the thought? I tried to fit till I faded out— Now I’m someone I don’t know about It spread so slow I missed detection… Now I’m drowning in inner peer infection [Musical Interlude] [Music Solo] [minimal — a single pulsing note, faint ambient noise, lightly brushing fingers across a drum head like static] [Bridge- Female Vocals - Raw, almost breaking] I remember a version of me Who didn’t ask for permission to be Who said the wrong thing, laughed too loud— And never needed to blend with the crowd [pause] [audible breathing] [pause] I want her back… even if she’s alone [Verse 3- Female Vocals - quiet resolve building] Maybe truth is a fragile start A shaking voice, a stubborn heart Maybe “different” is worth the cost Even if I’m a little lost I don’t need to be understood Just need to feel like something’s still good And if my voice comes back unclear… I’ll still know it when I hear [Final Chorus - transformed - quiet strength] This is my voice—even if it shakes Even if every word rearranges I’m done repeating what isn’t mine I’ll take the silence… and redefine It hurt to heal, but I felt connection Breaking free from inner peer infection [Outro- Female Vocals - whispered] [soft breath] …hi [soft breath] [a single piano note… fades]
