A Date With Hobos

V5.5

[Intro — smoky lounge narration, ocean ambience] Port Vesper after midnight… salt in the air, neon in the puddles, bus brakes sighing like tired lovers. And there I was… flip flops, summer dress, absolutely unprepared for the emotional ambitions of strange men. [Verse 1 — The Card Trick Gentleman] Professor Midnight stepped from the haze, paper-bag vintage and carnival plays. Cards hit the air with theatrical flair, gulls sang backup through the salt-heavy air. He said, “darling, watch closely…” Red kings danced beneath pharmacy light, Port Vesper prophets come out at night. He spelled out a word with a flourish so grand— lost to the sea breeze before I could understand. He bowed down low with impossible charm, while a vending machine triggered some kind of alarm. The tide rolled in with dramatic suspense— that man had charisma but zero defense. [Hook] Well if you'll excuse me, gentlemen, the hour grows late— I have a date with hobos and I simply cannot wait. Well if you'll excuse me, gentlemen, please loosen your grip— I smiled one time politely, not a lifelong membership. [Verse 2 — The Gin Philosopher] Ricky Umbrella emerged from the glow of a laundromat sign flickering soft and low. He said my eyes looked dangerous, mysterious, divine— I said, “that’s dehydration mixed with bus route nine.” He guessed my weight with hazardous pride, missed by a stone but doubled down twice. Gestured toward my hips like physics was wrong, Port Vesper gentlemen don’t live very long. Then from his jacket with elegant spin, he produced warm gin like a romantic sin. The waves crashed hard while the gulls cried above— nothing says “destiny” quite like public transit love. [Hook] Well if you'll excuse me, gentlemen, the sea fog rolls in— I have a date with hobos and I cannot stay for gin. Well if you'll excuse me, gentlemen, please release the dream— I’m not your silver screen siren, I’m waiting for the Route 3. [Verse 3 — The Cosmic One] Down by the plasma center parking lot lights, stood Vincent Satellites preaching to the night. Trench coat open, hands up to the sky, speaking of lizards with passionate eyes. Infinite planets, hidden regimes, reptilian bankers controlling our dreams. The gulls overhead screamed into the breeze, like unpaid interns of strange prophecies. His theories got wilder with each passing breath— but honestly? the man could monologue circles around death. [Bridge — half spoken, jazzy] The strange thing about Port Vesper is not the men… No. It’s the way loneliness lingers with the salt and rain. You smile once beneath the neon, laugh for half a beat— and suddenly somebody thinks the universe arranged the meeting personally. [Final Hook — huge brass, energetic] Well if you'll excuse me, gentlemen, the trumpet section swells— I have a date with hobos by the seafood carousel. Well if you'll excuse me, gentlemen, the night’s begun to spin— Port Vesper turns exhaustion into accidental sin. Well if you'll excuse me, gentlemen, please try to understand— I came here for the bus stop, not another wedding plan. [Outro — upright bass, distant waves] The tide rolled out. The buses groaned. The neon buzzed beneath the fog. And somewhere under Port Vesper sodium lights, another gentleman prepared to misinterpret eye contact forever.
