[radio monologue] [no drums] [voice over narration] [no sound efx] [slow methodical delivery] [ambient pad] [Spoken narration] [Intro] [(dry, welcoming)] [super quiet static pads] Welcome back. That was a classic from Chicks with Whips. You’re still out there. I’m still out here. Same as last cycle. Long-haulers, hunters, freebooters, and the ones welding the stations together… we’re all on the same frequency tonight [ambient pad is still super quiet] And every once in a while, the sensors still flicker the same way they did when that orb lunatic went non-local and vanished. No new answers on that one. Just the quiet feeling that something’s still unfinished. We’ve got bounties, ghosts, corporate nonsense, and a new track from Islamic Clown Fetish Masonry coming up. Stay sharp. Huntware Dynamics is pushing the new Echo-Tag Mark five harder than ever. Slap it on a target and it keeps pinging long after the hull goes cold. Their latest ad just says, “Even the dead leave a trail.” I don’t know who wrote that, but they deserve a raise or a prison sentence. Possibly both. [ambient pad is super quiet] News from the lanes: A cargo freighter near the Shimmering Rift reported that its entire load of industrial lubricant spontaneously rearranged itself into the shape of a giant question mark. The crew is calling it ‘a sign.’ Corporate is calling it ‘a lawsuit.’ Shifting to the top bounties tonight. there's a fresh contract on a Zeptoid named Glup Shitto he boards freighters, takes every high-value material in the hold, and leaves the crew with one Easy-to-Store nutrition block each and a note that just says, “Make it last.” Four crews so far. Two of them didn’t. [ambient pad evoles slightly] Got a good one from a bounty hunter running the Epsilon Corridor. He locked onto a target that matched his own ship’s signature exactly — same ion drive resonance, same micro-fractures, same "if this spaceship is a'rockin" sticker. Chased it for four hours. Every maneuver he made, the other ship mirrored a half-second later. Eventually he powered down. The other ship powered down too. They drifted like that for almost an hour. Then the other ship transmitted a single message in his own voice: “I already took the contract.” some nights the Great Abyss feels especially large and you feel especially small. some nights the Great Abyss doesn’t just feel empty. It feels like it’s leaning in. Some nights the Great Abyss feels like it’s holding a contract with your name on it and just waiting for you to sign. Credits. Crypto. Easy-to-Store block, HelixFuel loyalty points. all of it feels temporary when the black starts leaning in close enough that you can hear it plotting against you. but you’re still out here taking the jobs, running the lanes, refusing to let the quiet win. that counts for something. you can feel it in the way the stars refuse to blink. In the way the static on the open channels sounds almost like breathing. In the way your own reflection in the viewport sometimes waves half a second late. I grew up on Centauri C thinking the universe was big but still somehow manageable. then I flew through a collapsing rift and came out the other side understanding that ‘manageable’ was a joke the Abyss tells itself when it’s bored. out here the pirates take what they want. the corporations sell you coffee that makes you question your life choices and energy strips that promise you won’t die bored. The ghosts leave distress calls from versions of you that haven’t happened yet. And still, we keep moving. that’s the part that gets me. mot the fear. not the vastness. the stubborn, ridiculous decision to keep the engines warm. to keep the signal open. to keep talking into a microphone for people who might not even be listening. the Great Abyss doesn’t care if you make it to the next beacon. and i cannot help but care. the truckers who still check their secondary holds twice. the bounty hunters who still have a code. the pirates who leave notes instead of bodies. the ones who listen to this frequency when the quiet gets too loud. We care in the small, stubborn ways that don’t show up on any corporate ledger. and maybe that’s enough. Maybe the only real rebellion left is to keep flying, keep laughing at how absurd it all is, and refuse to let the black write the last line. So, if you’re out there tonight — lights low, coffee gone cold, one eye on the sensors because they keep blinking like they know something — know this: the signal is still open. The frequency is still warm. And for as long as I’m sitting here, you’re not alone in the dark Dex Out. Keep flying
