The Mainspring of My Soul

V5

This song is part of the same story as my other track. Both songs take place in Brasswich, a steampunk reimagining of London in a universe of my own creation. A city of gaslight, gears, clock towers, and iron streets that never truly sleep. “The Mainspring of My Soul” tells the beginning of the tragedy: a meticulous watchmaker whose perfectly ordered life is transformed by love and shattered by sudden loss. Grief drives him to obsession, trying to replace what was lost with brass, springs, and ticking hearts that can never truly beat. “Keeper of a Memory” continues that story. Here, the same man crosses a darker threshold, using forbidden clockwork to slow time itself, searching for a single stolen moment. The one where everything went wrong. What begins as hope turns into a prison, as time demands its price and memory becomes something that traps rather than comforts. Together, these songs form two chapters of the same narrative: love, loss, obsession, and the terrible cost of trying to defy time in the fog-choked streets of Brasswich. https://suno.com/s/49UVx55aNMv0f8sE (Verse 1) Gaslight breathes on cobbled ground The city sighs a metal sound Where iron giants softly weep And Brasswich towers guard the sleep My world was cogs and polished glass The moments I would let them pass In measured ticks, a life precise On gears of silver, cold as ice (Verse 2) Then through the smog, a sunbeam broke A whispered word you softly spoke Your laughter, like a silver bell Broke my workshop's lonely spell Your eyes, a shade of polished jade A perfect plan, divinely made You came to be my only chart The steady beat within my heart (Chorus) You were the mainspring of my soul The part that made my spirit whole A heart of brass and whispered chime A perfect gear to conquer time In all this world of steam and grey You were the light that showed the way My one true north, my soul's design Forever, I would call you mine (Verse 3) The news arrived on copper wire A sudden spark, a flash of fire A carriage wheel, a fatal slip A final word upon your lip The Grand Clock Tower held its breath And bowed its head to silent death The city's pulse, it skipped a beat A broken rhythm in the street (Chorus) You were the mainspring of my soul The part that made my spirit whole A heart of brass and whispered chime A broken gear, outside of time In all this world of steam and grey You are the light that's gone away My one true north, my soul's design That for a moment, was all mine (Bridge) My hands, they know the turn of keys To mend the broken memories I'm building you an automaton To sing your songs till dawn is gone With crystal eyes and copper hair To fill the silence and the stare I'll wind the key, I'll make it start And try to build a brand new heart... But it won't beat... it cannot feel... The space between is all that's real. (Outro) The ticking's all I hear tonight... A beat behind... a beat not right... The city sighs its metal sound... And your small ghost is all around... In Brasswich...
