[Verse 1] I saw gold fins In a grocery cart By the frozen peas In the loading yard Someone left a little bowl On a busted seat Now the fish are circling Like they know the beat [Pre-Chorus] And I had to stop Just to watch them shine Tiny patient eyes In the parking line [Chorus] Koi in the cart Koi in the cart Look how they move Right through the dark Koi in the cart Koi in the cart Small as a wish Big in my heart [Verse 2] The clerk stepped out With a paper cup Said they came from the fair When the truck broke up Kids leaned close With their sticky hands Like they found a secret No one planned [Pre-Chorus] And the rain came soft On the shopping rows But the water in the bowl Never lost its glow [Chorus] Koi in the cart Koi in the cart Look how they move Right through the dark Koi in the cart Koi in the cart Small as a wish Big in my heart [Bridge] One red flash One white stripe Turning through That borrowed light A little world On rolling wheels Making strangers slow down Making strangers feel [Final Chorus] Koi in the cart Koi in the cart Look how they move Right through the dark Koi in the cart Koi in the cart Small as a wish Big in my heart Koi in the cart Koi in the cart Tiny and gold And hard to forget
