Whilst most shows depicted protagonists either becoming heroic figures fighting evil Overlords, saving princesses and getting benefits or protagonists taking the role of either antihero or straight up bad guy. "On Evil Payroll" put two friends in a situation, when after they found a mysterious portal and traveled through it -- they found themself as a servants to an evil Queen. Though instead of being her advisors or knights, they got a role of a staff. After all, somebody has to feed dragons, mop floors, do laundry, take care of a garden, polish decor -- keep domain pristine. For a first couple episodes, friends were confused and scared; but with each next episode, they adapted more and more into their new life, learning proper ways and techniques of properly taking care of evil decorum. Eventually by the end of season 1, what started as them dreaming of going back home grew into liking their new roles (Friend 2 even started a romance with an Imp maid). Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger: though friends found a portal back home, cut to black occurred before they returned. Thanks to S1 having good ratings, show ran for two and a half more seasons. S4 abruptly ended due to lack of interest from fans, since it decided to change formula and send Friends into a more gritty post-apoc future where they became servants of Evil AI. Rumor is, that S4 were supposed to be it's own show, but creators were forced to continue "On Evil Payroll". Is it true? Is it an excuse?
