Wreckless Rick and Me

V5.5

Wreckless Rick, Miss Alice, Alan and Me [Spoken Intro] We went to Key West for Fantasy Fest. Four people, one bad plan, and enough poor judgment to sink a much bigger boat. [Verse 1] Wreckless Rick, Miss Alice, Alan and me, Rolling down the islands with nowhere else to be. The beers were endless, the bud was green, More drugs in one weekend than I’d ever seen. Painted bodies dancing underneath the neon signs, Hustlers on every corner looking hard for easy dimes. Duval Street was roaring like a fever in the heat, With the whole damn human circus spilling through the street. [Pre-Chorus] Nobody asked what morning meant. Nobody checked the time. We came looking for a party And found the end of the line. [Chorus] Wreckless Rick, Miss Alice, Alan and me, Four loose cannons running wild through the Keys. Fantasy Fest and a head full of sin, No one knew where the night would end. The beer kept flowing, the whole town screamed— More trouble than four fools had ever dreamed. Wreckless Rick, Miss Alice, Alan and me, We went looking for freedom and damn near found eternity. [Verse 2] The streets were full of pirates, angels, devils, painted skin, Every doorway had a story and every story pulled us in. Alan disappeared awhile, then wandered back at dawn, Alice wore a wicked smile like she knew what was going on. Rick could smell adventure like a shark can smell the blood, And I was far too far gone to tell a warning from the fun. Somewhere through the madness, someone mentioned one more ride— A little island offshore on the other side. [Pre-Chorus] A sensible man might question What kind of boat would go. But sense had left the island A couple beers ago. [Verse 3] Rick and I found some dude With a rubber dinghy tied, Paid him cash to take us out For a little island ride. Going over, water flat, Sunlight shining off the blue. Nothing in that peaceful trip Said what the sea would do. We drank beneath the palm trees, Let the afternoon unwind. While somewhere past the horizon, The weather changed its mind. When the man came back to get us, He looked worried at the sky. But we climbed into that rubber boat— Too late to wonder why. [Pre-Chorus] The ride out had been easy. The return was something else. The ocean rose around us Like it meant to take us down itself. [Chorus] Wreckless Rick and me In a rubber dinghy on the sea, Ten-foot waves behind us, Ten more where the bow should be. No Fantasy Fest, no neon dream, Just black water breaking over everything. Wreckless Rick and me Learning what fear can really be. [Verse 4] The dinghy climbed a mountain, Then vanished in the trough. The motor screamed behind us While the waves kept throwing us off. One second staring at the sky, The next beneath a wall, That little rubber bastard Had no business there at all. Rick held tight and cursed the ocean. I held tighter and cursed Rick. The driver fought the throttle While the bottom rose and dipped. Saltwater filled our mouths, And every joke had disappeared. Nothing sobers up a stoner Like a sudden death appearing near. [Bridge] Back in town, Miss Alice and Alan Probably thought we’d lost the time. They had no idea two idiots Were crossing hell’s own county line. No life jackets worth remembering, No rescue boat in sight, Just three men in a pool toy Trying to make it through the night. [Breakdown — Spoken over bass and drums] Ten-foot seas. A rubber dinghy. Some dude we paid in cash. Wreckless Rick beside me, which did not improve the odds. Going out was beautiful. Coming back— the Atlantic tried to kill us. [Guitar Solo] [Verse 5] When that battered boat hit shoreline, I crawled out on my knees. Rick laughed like a lunatic And turned back toward the sea. We found Miss Alice and Alan, Still alive and raising hell. Tried explaining what had happened— But the words could never tell. The party carried onward, Like the ocean had not tried To turn two reckless stoners Into fish food with the tide. We raised another beer glass To the fact that we survived, Because fools don’t learn the lesson— They just celebrate being alive. [Final Chorus] Wreckless Rick, Miss Alice, Alan and me, Four loose cannons running wild through the Keys. Fantasy Fest and a head full of sin, No one knew where the night would end. The beer kept flowing, the whole town screamed— More trouble than four fools had ever dreamed. Wreckless Rick, Miss Alice, Alan and me, We went looking for freedom and damn near found eternity. Wreckless Rick, Miss Alice, Alan and me, Still telling that story like it happened last week. The years roll past, but the waves stay high, And that rubber bo
