So Yahushua's priesthood could not be established through the same family requirements that governed Aaron's descendants. Instead, he became a priest following the order of Melchizedek. His appointment does not depend on his ancestry or a commandment about human descent. It is established through the power of an endless life. That is why Scripture declares: You are a priest forever, following the order of Melchizedek. The former commandment governing that priestly appointment is therefore set aside because it could not accomplish the perfection people needed. The Levitical system could not bring that complete perfection. But now a better hope has been introduced. Through this hope, we are able to draw near to Elohim. And there is something else that makes Yahushua's appointment different. The earlier priests were appointed without Elohim declaring an oath that their priesthood would last forever. But Yahushua was appointed with an oath from Yahuah himself. Yahuah swore and will not change his mind. You are a priest forever, following the order of Melchizedek. Because of this promise, Yahushua became the guarantee of a better covenant. Now consider another weakness of the former priesthood. There had to be many priests because none of them could remain in office forever. Death eventually ended their service, and another priest would take their place. But Yahushua lives forever. His priesthood will never end, and it will never need to pass to someone else. That is why he can save completely those who come to Elohim through him. He lives forever to represent them and speak on their behalf. And this is the High Priest we need. Yahushua is holy, innocent, pure, and separated from sin. He has been raised higher than the heavens. Unlike the former high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices repeatedly, first for his own sins and then for the sins of the people. He has no sins of his own that require forgiveness. And instead of continuing the repeated offerings of animals for sin, he offered himself. He made that offering once, for all. This is a tremendous change in the sacrificial requirements of the priesthood. The repeated animal sacrifices of the former priesthood are no longer needed for the atonement Yahushua has accomplished. His sacrifice is complete, and his work as High Priest continues forever. And now we can understand the final comparison. The Torah appointed human high priests who were subject to weakness. But afterward, Yahuah confirmed a greater appointment through his oath. He appointed his Son, Yahushua HaMashiach. And unlike the human priests who came before him, Yahushua has been made complete forever. His priesthood is everlasting.
