[Verse 1] "So they're not hallucinations," Hunter quietly inquired. They're as real as you and me, Every word you think you imagine Is a thought in someone's head. "But I don't think it's quite that simple," she countered, "I don't hear them all the time." (That shouldn't be surprising, ) (People have really empty minds. ) [Verse 2] "You're terrible!" she scolded, "It's the truth, you know it. But seriously I think you're right. You only seem to hear the outward thoughts, Like when folks are talking to themselves." "I'd like to have a talent like that." "No, I don't think you would. I thought I had lost my mind back there. I'm still having doubts." "Oh, you're plenty sane all right. You're just dealing with a lot." [Verse 3] "First of all that pirate attack, Is that really what it was? They didn't take a damn thing." "Well, honestly, you weren't the target." Hunter sat up straight, "I don't get it," She said in shock. Robert folded his arms on the table in front of himself, Set his chin on his casted hand. [Verse 4] "You were just the bait, I'm afraid. The pirates were looking for us." "We were close by and they knew it. They hit your site, and when we answered your distress beacon, They ambushed us after we arrived." "We didn't even have a beacon," Hunter said, "We never had the chance." "I know," Robert replied, "that's what tipped us. None of the other colony sites had been able to deploy a beacon." [Verse 5] "They were after our guns and equipment, And they got them, but not the way they wanted. They came in hard and open, And we were ready for them." "We had another ship behind us, And they took the Loki down. We took some minor damage, But we already knew we would." [Verse 6] Hunter let out the breath she didn't realize she was holding. "Minor damage my ass, they damn near killed you." "'Tis only a flesh wound." "Anyway, this'll heal. In fact I'll make you a bet." "What kind of bet?" "I'll bet that I'm up and walking, Before you can get discharged." Hunter stared at the man across the table from her. [Verse 7] How was that even going to be possible, In the shape he was in? He was crazy! Then she remembered how he wheeled himself into her room, And how the doctors had reacted to him even being able to move. [Outro] "Bet's on," she said, and held out her hand. And they shook.
