I Don't Think This Is Normal [Michael]
[VERSE 1] Most days start like normal. Breakfast. School. The usual stuff. Then my sister gets an idea And suddenly things get weird enough. Last week we played Space Invaders. Nothing out of the ordinary there. Then actual Space Invaders Started falling through the air. Dad said, "That's fascinating." Mom said, "Let's stay calm." I said, "Those are real aliens. I think we've got a problem." [PRE-CHORUS] Maybe I'm overthinking. Maybe they're all right. But most backyards don't become battlefields On a Tuesday night. [CHORUS] I don't think this is normal. I really have my doubts. Most kids don't save the neighborhood When they're hanging out. Most sisters borrow video games. Most sisters slam a door. My sister accidentally creates Things that weren't there before. I love her. She's amazing. I wouldn't trade her for another. But I don't think this is normal. And honestly, I'm glad I'm her brother. [VERSE 2] Dad thinks every problem Is another chance to learn. Crash thinks every warning sign Is something she can overturn. Mom says, "Let's be careful." Which usually means, "Hold tight." Because something unexpected Is probably happening tonight. And Grandpa's the only person I know Who asks what happens next. Everybody else gets excited. He makes a checklist. [PRE-CHORUS] Maybe that's not exciting. Maybe it sounds absurd. But somebody should probably ask Whether this is a good idea first. [CHORUS] I don't think this is normal. I really have my doubts. Most kids don't fight dungeon bosses When they're hanging out. Most sisters need a ride somewhere. Most sisters ask for help. My sister somehow turns imagination Into something else. I love her. She's amazing. I wouldn't trade her for another. But I don't think this is normal. And I don't think anyone else could BE her brother. [BRIDGE] Sometimes I catch her staring At something I can't see. Like she's listening to a song Just beyond reality. And for a second she looks nervous. Like she's trying to understand. How to carry all the possibilities She's holding in her hands. And then she smiles. And builds something. And somehow things work out. Most of the time. [BUILD] And maybe that's the problem. Or maybe that's the answer. I don't know. I'm still figuring it out while I entertain her. [FINAL CHORUS] I don't think this is normal. I don't think it ever will be. But normal never made a sister Who would cross the stars for me. So if another spaceship lands Or another dungeon forms, I'll grab a blaster, Stand beside her, And pretend this is the norm. [Spoken] Though... Maybe we should tell Grandpa.
