East of the Sun and West of the Moon | #OnceUponASound
Original Lyrics, Musical Arrangment & Voice Zonne Live 3 © Artanne - All rights reserved ~*~ Based on a Nordic Fairytale ~*~ The fire burns low in a house made of stone, The cold settles deep in the night, A white bear appears at the edge of the dark, His shadow grows long in the light. He stands at the door without speaking a word, His gaze pulls me out of my room, He offers a life far beyond what I know… So I follow him into the gloom. The castle stands still in a world made of snow, Far away from the people I've known, I'm surrounded by warmth and excessive wealth, But the silence feels awkward alone. At night something shifts when the daylight is gone, But I'm told not to look when darkness falls, I hear something move, though I see no one there, I close my eyes when my curiosity calls. East of the sun, west of the moon, In a place I don’t fully know, Something is here when the daylight is gone, When I’m told not to look, my silence will grow. By day he is bound to the shape of a bear, By night he’s a free man, but must not be seen, His fate in the hands of a troll princess, If the spell's not broken, she'll be his queen. He cannot show his true face to the girl, For she must trust him, or all will be lost. One single doubt could undo it all, Yet she must trust him, whatever the cost. East of the sun, west of the moon, The troll princess’ castle lies hidden from sight, She awaits his arrival, when the spell takes hold, That’s where he goes, in the depth of the night. The silence can’t hold what I need to know, I wait in the dark till I'm close to his side, I strike up a flame just to see who he is, And see in that light what he tried to hide. There stands a man, there is no bear, He runs to the door, and is gone in the night. He fades in the darkness, I watch him go, The promise I broke still echoes inside. I broke his trust, I crossed a line, I saw what I was never meant to see, Now he's gone and I'm all alone, I've lost someone who grew dear to me. I follow his steps on the path he ran, East of the sun and west of the moon, That’s where she holds him, the troll princess. I’ll follow him there, I will find him soon. East of the sun, west of the moon, Where the troll princess keeps him in her hold, I’ll reach him there and save him from her, He will be free, he won’t be controlled. © Artanne - 2026
