Is This Where We Stand? (Live Version)

[crowd sounds] [spoken word] I wrote this a while back in hopes it would make my Christian brothers and sisters think about the consequences of the policies they were supporting. Since then things have gotten worse and worse. So I still have to ask, is this where we stand? [verse 1] She lays down her head at night On a concrete floor She hasn’t showered in three weeks Or is it four? Chased from home by men with guns Several months ago Now some other men with guns Will not let her go [chorus] Is this where we stand? Trading in God’s love for hate and fear? Is this where we stand? Do we close our eyes and hope she disappears? [verse 2] On a clear and sunny day He’s learned to stay inside When other kids would run and play It’s best for him to hide He’s lost count of the friends To whom he’s said goodbye And it’s on the clearest sunny days That death falls from the sky [chorus 2] Is this where we stand? Trading in God’s love for hate and fear? Is this where we stand? Do we close our eyes and hope he disapy? [bridge] We’ve got to learn to live as one And love our neighbors as ourselves Isn’t that what Jesus told us we should do? We can’t afford to stand around and wait for everybody else It’s up to me and you [chorus 3] Or is this where we stand? Trading in God’s love for hate and fear? Is this where we stand? If we close our eyes their whole world disappears [crowd sounds] [end]
