The Woman Between

I used to move from glass to glass, looking for the face that felt most true. One knew how to smile for everyone. One kept things I never showed to you. And one looked back so quietly, I wasn't sure I knew her anymore. So I kept moving between reflections, waiting for one to tell me something more. Then somewhere in the stillness, I stopped asking which was mine. I let every face keep breathing, without asking them to choose a side. I'm the woman between, somewhere seen, somewhere unseen. Not the shadow, not the light, not the wrong one, not the right. I'm the woman between, where the edges don't have to agree. Maybe I was never meant to choose which reflection gets to be me. Some faces learned from loving. Some were shaped by letting go. Some carried what I couldn't say before I learned what I could know. I don't need to make them strangers. I don't need to call them one. I can stand here in the middle without deciding what I've become. There's a quiet in the question when you don't demand a name. Maybe every true reflection only catches part of what remains. I'm the woman between, somewhere seen, somewhere unseen. Not the shadow, not the light, not the wrong one, not the right. I'm the woman between, where the edges don't have to agree. Maybe I was never meant to choose which reflection gets to be me. If I close my eyes, am I still here? If the glass goes dark, do I disappear? Or was I always the one looking in? I'm the woman between, more than anything the mirror sees. Every face has carried something, every face belongs to me. I'm the woman between, and tonight that's enough to be. I don't need another answer. I can let the question breathe. Three reflections. One quiet room. And somewhere between them... me.
