[Intro, spoken, Bit sweet soft, vocal only] I'd never been to a metal concert before. But my friend said: "Bit, you're gonna love the energy!" And me, naive little me, thought she meant caffeine. So I wore my favorite color. Yellow. Bright, happy, sunshine yellow. What could go wrong? [Glockenspiel. Heavy distorted guitar riff explodes in.] [Verse 1, Bit sweet gentle, forward vocal, strings and glockenspiel only, no drums] I showed up in my sundress, yellow as the sun With a flower crown and sneakers — I thought I'd won The crowd was all leather and spikes and black I looked like a banana at a funeral — and I can't go back The guitarist roared like a hungry beast I smiled politely and gave a little peace He stopped and stared and asked me: "WHAT?" (What?!) My yellow dress glowed, my sneakers squeaked The metal gods looked down and said: "She's bright... and we're freaked" [Pre-chorus, Bit sweet building, strings adding, no drums] I tried to throw the horns up high But my fingers tangled — I don't know why I made a little heart instead The vocalist laughed and shook his head (Wrong moment!) [Chorus, Bit sweet epic, forward vocal, full orchestra, drums enter, crowd laughing] BIT AT THE METAL FEST, I'M THE YELLOW SPOT! Everyone's in black and I'm burning hot! The guitars are screaming, the drums are insane And I'm glowing like a lemon in the middle of the pain! (A very scared lemon) The mosh pit opened, I stepped right in They lifted me up — my dress caught the wind! I surfed on the crowd, a flash of bright gold Now I'm the metal mascot — or so I've been told! [Verse 2, Bit sweet dramatic, forward vocal, strings and light brass, no drums] The bass player headbanged so hard he fell I caught his guitar and rang a little bell He looked at me with tears in his eyes "Thanks, little sunshine — you saved my demise!" (Sunshine! Not cupcake! Progress!) The singer screamed a note so high The ceiling cracked — I thought I'd die But I just smiled, my yellow dress gleamed The crowd went wild — or so it seemed [Pre-chorus, Bit sweet panic rising, strings faster, drums building] I tried to headbang like the rest My neck went "crack" — I failed the test I nodded gently, one-two-three The drummer pointed — laughed at me (He's not wrong!) [Chorus, Bit sweeter louder, forward vocal, full orchestra, double bass drum] BIT AT THE METAL FEST, I'M THE YELLOW SPOT! Everyone's in black and I'm burning hot! The guitars are screaming, the drums are insane And I'm glowing like a lemon in the middle of the pain! (Still glowing. Still scared.) The mosh pit opened, I stepped right in They lifted me up — my dress caught the wind! I surfed on the crowd, a flash of bright gold Now I'm the metal mascot — or so I've been told! [Bridge, spoken, Bit sweet reflective, vocal only, glockenspiel and soft strings, no drums] And then the guitarist knelt down. He handed me his pick. He said: "You don't belong here but that's exactly why you do." He looked at my yellow dress. He squinted. He said: "You're like a warning sign. But a cute one." And I thought... Maybe metal isn't about anger. Maybe it's about finding your own little ray of sunshine in the middle of all the noise. Even if that sunshine is yellow. [Piano note. Orchestra builds slowly.] [Final Chorus, Bit sweet triumphant, key change, voice cuts through, full orchestra, double bass drum, brass] BIT AT THE METAL FEST — I SURVIVED THE NIGHT! My yellow dress is dirty but I'm still bright! The guitars kept screaming, the drums kept their beat And I kept smiling with my two left feet! (Two left feet. Always in yellow.) They cheered my name, they raised their horns I blew a kiss — they blew back thorns But I just laughed and took a bow 'Cause metal loves a yellow cow! (Wait. That came out wrong.) BIT AT THE METAL FEST! (In yellow!) BIT AT THE METAL FEST! (Still yellow!) [Outro, spoken, Bit soft happy laughing, vocal only, music fades] So yeah. That happened. I walked into a metal concert wearing yellow. And I walked out with a guitar pick, three new friends, a mild concussion... and my dress is now a lovely shade of grey. (giggles) But you know what? Tomorrow I'm going back. This time I'm wearing neon orange. [Soft laugh. Gong. Crowd cheers. Guitar fades with glockenspiel.]
