Their Way (But I Told You So) - a Rangers lament - dif tavern
Title: “Their Way (But I Told You So)” [Intro] (Slow, dramatic lute and soft fiddle intro, building tension like a grand confession.) (Spoken): “And now… the trail begins. And you still doubt me…” [Verse 1] I’ve walked the wild, through storm and rain, I’ve read the tracks, I’ve felt the strain. But every time, you mock my claim, You want to lead… though you’re insane. I planned each path, each careful sway, But you all chose to go your way. [Chorus] Yes, there were times, I bit my tongue, When Bard sang loud and Paladin clung. The Druid growled, in “bear mode” proud, While I just sighed beneath the cloud. I faced it all, with grit and gray, And still you marched to go your way. [Verse 2] I warned of traps, of goblin lairs, You laughed it off with noble airs. You prayed for light, you sang for fame, While I just tracked and cursed your name. And now we’re lost, what can I say? You should have walked the path my way. [Bridge] (Music swells, fiddle and bodhrán join for dramatic punch) What is a Ranger, what has he got? If not his wits, then he is naught! To read the signs, to trust the ground, Not city streets or courtly sound! The record shows, I led the fray— But you all chose to go your way! [Outro] (Grand flourish, then soft lute outro) (Spoken): “Next time, trust the Ranger. Or write a ballad about how you got eaten.”
