[Intro] When the chest caves in And the brave voice breaks There is a hand in the wreckage There is a path through the ache [Verse 1 - Rap] I know that room where the hard face slips Where the last good word gets caught on the lips You count every loss like a debt in a book Wear a steady mask but the seams are shook No throne in the distance, no promise of ease Just mercy that meets you down on your knees The wound is not weakness, the tear is not defeat He draws near to the crushed where the proud won’t speak [Pre-Chorus] When the heart is split wide When the courage runs thin He is close to the broken He is close within [Chorus - Shouted] The Lord is near to the brokenhearted He saves the crushed in spirit When every wall comes down around you His presence stands within it The Lord is near to the brokenhearted No shattered soul forgotten From the dust, from the deep, from the place you hide You are held, not abandoned [Verse 2 - Rap] Not a polished speech, not a borrowed grin He walks straight into where the hurt has been No need to pretend that the fire felt fine No need to rename every scar a design Bring the honest breath, bring the shaking hands Bring the questions that nobody understands There is room for the grief, room under His wing The weakest pulse still has a song to sing [Bridge - Half-Time] I will not call the darkness home I will not crown the pain Even here, even now Grace is speaking my name [Breakdown - Shouted] Near! To the broken! Near! To the crushed! When the strength is gone He is not gone When the heart gives out He stays close enough [Final Chorus] The Lord is near to the brokenhearted He saves the crushed in spirit When every wall comes down around you His presence stands within it The Lord is near to the brokenhearted No shattered soul forgotten From the dust, from the deep, from the place you hide You are held, not abandoned [Outro] Close to the wound Close to the cry Close when the brave mask dies The broken heart is not alone The crushed spirit is carried home
