Maybe I’m Not Supposed to Know (acoustic)

MAYBE I’M NOT SUPPOSED TO KNOW I keep asking the ceiling questions Like the answer’s hiding in the paint I keep searching every silence For a reason, for a name Maybe every door that didn’t open Wasn’t mine to walk through Maybe I can keep on living Without knowing what I’m supposed to do I replay the conversations Like a film I can’t rewind Looking for the hidden meaning In every word and every sign Was it timing? Was it failure? Was it something I ignored? Was I standing at the ending Thinking it was just a door? I’ve been digging through the ashes Trying to find what started the flame But some things disappear forever And never leave behind a name Maybe peace is not an answer Maybe faith is walking slow Maybe I can stop demanding What I’m not supposed to know Maybe I’m not supposed to know Why the road turned where it turned Why some bridges disappear Before I understand what burned Maybe I’m not supposed to know Why some people come and go Maybe life keeps some things hidden So the heart can learn to grow I could spend forever asking Why it happened, where, and when Or trust that every mystery Doesn’t need a perfect end Maybe I’m not supposed to know Maybe I’m just supposed to go I thought wisdom meant the answers All lined up and neatly named Every loss explained by morning Every heartbreak given blame But the older that I’m getting The less certain I become Maybe knowing every reason Isn’t where the peace comes from There are chapters without endings There are prayers without replies There are truths that only find us When we stop asking them why Maybe trust is not a feeling Maybe faith is letting go Of the need to solve the questions I was never meant to know Maybe I’m not supposed to know Why the road turned where it turned Why some bridges disappear Before I understand what burned Maybe I’m not supposed to know Why some people come and go Maybe life keeps some things hidden So the heart can learn to grow I could spend forever asking Why it happened, where, and when Or trust that every mystery Doesn’t need a perfect end Maybe I’m not supposed to know Maybe I’m just supposed to go What if the answer came tomorrow? Would it change what happened then? Would it put the pieces back together? Would it bring them home again? What if I knew every reason? Every motive? Every plan? Would the knowing make me stronger? Would I finally understand? Or would I learn... Some answers are too heavy Some answers come too slow Some answers change with distance Some answers never show And maybe that’s not tragedy Maybe that’s the way we grow Maybe I’m not supposed to know Why the stars went dark that night Maybe I was never promised I would understand this life Maybe I’m not supposed to know Every reason, every road Maybe I can trust the journey Without seeing where it goes I don’t need to solve the silence I don’t need to chase the past I can leave some doors unopened I can stop looking through the glass Maybe I’m not supposed to know Maybe that’s okay somehow I spent my whole life asking why... Maybe I can live right now
