(To be sung to a solemn, reverent tune) Verse 1: Original Righteousness & Innocence In Eden’s grove, in sacred light, Man stood upright in God's own sight. Formed from the dust, by breath made whole, A holy, sinless, living soul. With unclouded mind and heart untamed, They walked with God and unashamed; Bound by a covenant of life, Free from corruption, death, and strife. Verse 2: The Temptation & Deception Yet from the shadow came the snare, The subtle serpent in the air. "Has God declared you shall not eat?" He sowed the doubt with slick deceit. To crave the fruit, to twist the decree, To seek equal reign with Deity. The eye was drawn, the heart inclined, To exchange the Truth for a darkened mind. Verse 3: The Transgression & Broken Covenant The hand stretched forth, the fruit was ta'en, And Adam ate to his own bane. By one man’s act of willful pride, The holy covenant was denied. The law was breached, the communion torn, And in that hour, rebellion was born. No forced constraint, but choice preferred— They turned their backs on the Sovereign Word. Verse 4: Total Depravity & Spiritual Death Immediate death! The soul grew cold, As guilt and terror took their hold. They hid in shame from the Holy Presence, Corrupted now in act and essence. Inherited guilt, a fallen race, Slaves unto sin, devoid of grace. From root to branch, the poison spread— In trespasses and offenses dead. Verse 5: The Curse & The Promise (Protoevangelium) The ground was cursed with thorn and weed, Yet mid the judgment, hope was decreed! The Lord declared to the serpent’s line: "A Seed shall come by power divine! Though struck in heel by your mortal venom, He shall crush your head and reclaim My kingdom." Though paradise lost brought grief and pain, The promised Seed shall restore again.
