Partial Knee Replacement 19

V5.5

(Verse 1) Thirty years of racquetball, the greatest game on earth, Touch and kill shots, of which there were no dearth. Two rotator cuffs, a meniscus tear or two, Took me off the court in twenty-twelve, with a bill still due. (Verse 2) Fourteen years of aging, arthritis keeping score, Twenty-twenty-six, the bill comes through the door. Doc says "partial knee replacement," says "you'll be good in weeks," Four to six, he promises, casual as he speaks. (Chorus 1) Zero degrees extension, one-twenty on the bend, Push it till it hurts but don't push past where healing ends. Too little and you stiffen, too much and then you swell, That's the tightrope, friend, in recovery hell. (Verse 3) The PT says go harder, the surgeon says go slow, Work it, rest it, ice it — it depends, don't you know. You push through Monday's session feeling strong and almost free, Tuesday morning, twice the size, you just can't win, you see. (Chorus 2) Zero degrees extension, one-twenty on the bend, Each degree's a battle with no clear path to the end. The swelling steals the motion that the exercise just gained, A beautiful closed loop of work undone by pain. (Bridge) Four to six weeks, that's the line they sell you at the door, Nobody says a year from now you're still working on that floor. Heel slides in the morning, wall squats in the night, Every degree a victory, even if it's slight. (Verse 4) But I'd do it all again — every lunge, every twist, Every memory an echo that still persists. Three surgeries, a new knee, I'd still pay what it cost, For every point and rally, some won, some lost. (Verse 5) Somewhere past the setbacks, ice packs, and the doubt, You'll wonder what this suffering was all about, The stairs won't be enemies, and walks are just a stroll, The memory of the hard part slowly loses its control. (Final Chorus) Zero degrees extension, one-twenty on the bend, To endure the months of grinding, just remember how it ends. The scar becomes a story, the pain is in the past, The doubt is real right now, but the end is worth it, you will see at last. (Outro) The surgeon says I'm healing, the PT says I'm strong, Four to six weeks, they were slightly wrong. But the knee bends, the leg holds, and the walk feels almost right, Tomorrow's got a morning and I plan to meet it upright.
