Opium

OPIUM Verse 1 Poppies bowing in the evening wind, Red mouths whispering my name. The sunset hangs like a bruise above The horizon’s aching veins. Black jacket slipping from my shoulders, Lace catching the dying light. The field looks almost holy If you don’t stare too long at it. I was always drawn to beautiful things That knew exactly how to hurt me. Some lessons arrive as warnings. Some arrive dressed like mercy. ⸻ Pre-Chorus And every time I swore I’d learned, The flowers sang again. ⸻ Chorus Opium, Red flower on my tongue. Opium, I knew you were trouble from the jump. Every red flower says: “Just one more time.” Every red flower lies. Every red flower bites. Opium, Careful not to mistake the poison For paradise. ⸻ Verse 2 The moon climbs slow above the poppies, Silver stitching through the dusk. A thousand little temptations Growing wild around my trust. I used to call it destiny. I used to call it love. Funny how the things that break you Always arrive looking enough. The field keeps swaying like a choir, Heads bowed low in crimson prayer. And every flower hides a hunger Beneath its beauty there. ⸻ Pre-Chorus I know the difference now Between a blessing And a trap. ⸻ Chorus Opium, Red flower on my tongue. Opium, I knew you were trouble from the jump. Every red flower says: “Just one more time.” Every red flower lies. Every red flower bites. Opium, Careful not to mistake the poison For paradise. ⸻ Bridge Some flowers bloom in sunlight. Some flowers bloom in graves. Some flowers grow from longing. Some flowers grow from pain. And some flowers teach you How easy it is To confuse being consumed With being loved. ⸻ Final Chorus Opium, Red flower on my tongue. Opium, I knew you were trouble from the jump. Every red flower says: “Just one more time.” Every red flower lies. Every red flower bites. Opium, Careful not to mistake the poison For paradise. ⸻ Outro / Chant (whispered) Opium… Opium… Opium… Opium… Every red flower says: “Just one more time.” Opium… Opium… Opium… Opium… Careful not to mistake the poison For paradise. Opium… Opium… Opium…
