Looks This Good (Fact-Finding Interlude)
[Verse 1 — chopped, half-step bounce, full smug-flirtation] [lightsaber bass: low charm-hum, almost a purr, kept warm and quiet] Touched down at V-3, the Refinement Spire, Orbital Mineral Refinement and Metallurgical Processing Center — Long name for a place that smells like ozone and oil, Where the foremen drink hot and the contracts are royal. My informant's a Drift-rat name of Sable Quinn, Runs intel on the side, runs the bar from within. I walk in. Bob settles. Duster does its thing. The bartender forgets what the bartender was pouring. [Pre-chorus — half-spoken, full smug, the show is on] [lightsaber bass: held purr, harmonic warmth] See, I do not have to ask twice. I do not have to ask once, sometimes. Information moves toward me — (toward me, toward me) — 'Cause the room knows the answer is the price of being seen. [Chorus / Hook — Looks This Good] [lightsaber bass: warm wub on the title-line, single hit, smug as hell] It's easy to get answers when you look this good. (single low wub) The questions get themselves asked. The answers come like they should. (single low wub) I didn't ask the bartender to pour me what I drink — He poured it. I smiled. He blinked. I let him think. It's easy to get answers when you look this good. [Verse 2 — Sable Quinn intel scene, chopped, bouncing] [lightsaber bass: stutter-glitch on the punchlines, comedic, the bass is laughing again] Sable's at the back booth, gloves on, eyes sharp, Reads me in three seconds, drops the play, drops the carp. (spoken aside, in a different voice, dry: "Oh, it's you. Sit down.") I slide in. She slides over a flimsy with a name and a code: Garron Vey. Vex's lieutenant. Runs the freight-route node. Operates out of VII-1, Hekate Customs Authority, But he banks his cred at IX-3, the Helion bath-house, with priority. She says — (quote-voice: "He's the one who books the kill-teams. If you want Vex, you go through him. He's where the air-skim ledger seams.") I fold the flimsy. I stand. I say thank you, Sable. She says — (quote-voice: "Pay me back when this is over and you're able.") And then — [Combat Bridge — Drone Strike] [2:30. Lounge groove cuts. Lightsaber wub bass kicks in HARD. Drone-laser foley as a shrill descending counter-melody. Vocals shift to clipped, fast, articulate.] [lightsaber bass: full twin-wub stack, the dual-wield is out] Glass. Window. Drones. Six. Sable down behind the booth — I plant the boots, I plant the fix. Blue blade up — (wub) — green shoto cross — (wub-wub) — First drone in two pieces. Second one's in more than two. Third comes low — I tempered the strike, just clipped its drive — Fourth comes fast — (turbo wub teaser, half a beat) — and it does not survive. Fifth and sixth try the flanking move; that's cute. (spoken aside, dry, mid-fight: "Bless their little subroutines.") Saber-shoto cross, one motion, both drones cut. Smoke, sparks, silence. Five seconds of fight. Tempered the whole time. Sable looks up from behind the booth: (quote-voice: "...damn.") [Verse 3 — back to lounge groove, smug warmer than ever] [lightsaber bass: warm purr returns, lounge wurlitzer back in] Sable rises slow. Brushes glass off the gloves. Says (quote-voice: "You weren't kidding about the these.") I clip the sabers back. I sit back down. (spoken aside, warm: "I told you. I just don't choose to use 'em first.") She slides me a second flimsy I didn't ask to see. Says (quote-voice: "You're hunting Vey at IX-3? Take this. On the house. From me.") Bath-house schedule. Kill-team rotation. The whole shape. Looks this good and I'm good at the case. There's no escape. [Outro Chorus — lounge-warm, peeled back to brass and wurlitzer] It's easy to get answers when you look this good. The questions get themselves asked. The answers come like they should. (single low wub) And if a drone-strike interrupts the conversation — Tempered. Precise. No hesitation. It's easy to get answers when you look this good. (brass stab. Wurlitzer chord. Out.)
