[short instrumental intro] [Verse 1] There’s a scarecrow dancin’ in the midnight row With a jack-o'-lantern grin and a banjo glow Granny’s got cider, Pa’s got a jug And something just skittered ‘neath the pumpkin rug [Chorus] It’s moonshine and shadows in the patch tonight With the fiddles howlin’ under ghostly light Pumpkins jig, and the hay bales sway At the spookiest hoedown this side of the grave [Banjo Solo] [Verse 2] The chickens ran screamin’ from a phantom hen Old Joe’s boots danced off without him again The cat’s got a lantern and a little black hat And the skeleton band’s where the barn owl’s at [Chorus] It’s moonshine and shadows in the patch tonight With the fiddles howlin’ under ghostly light Pumpkins jig, and the hay bales sway At the spookiest hoedown this side of the grave [Fiddle Solo] [Verse 3] Now the crows wear boots and the pigs all bow To a ghost pig queen with a cobweb crown They roast marshmallows on a bale-fire spark And square-dance ‘round in the haunted dark [Chorus] It’s moonshine and shadows in the patch tonight With the fiddles howlin’ under ghostly light Pumpkins jig, and the hay bales sway At the spookiest hoedown this side of the grave [Upright Bass Solo] [Final Chorus] It’s moonshine and shadows in the patch tonight Where the dead two-step in the pale moonlight Pick that banjo, stomp that grave— It's a harvest howl from beyond the hay!
