Rose Still Calls Me Little Brother [Spoken Introduction] In every town, There are a few special people Everybody seems to know. Marble Falls was no exception. And when I was young, I latched on to a gal named Rose. Not a gal like a girlfriend— A gal like a big sister. It seemed like the most natural thing in the world. [Conversational Verse] Rose was my big brother’s First serious girlfriend. So in those early years, The three of us made a lot of miles together. Wherever they were going, Little Brother was usually somewhere close behind. I never really understood Why they didn’t keep on dating. But life has a way of getting in the way, And other things came along. [Conversational Verse] You know what they say— “The grass is always greener On the other side of the fence.” Well, a redheaded girl caught my brother’s attention, And before long, they became an item. They stayed that way for a good many years— Until one day, They weren’t an item anymore. [Sung Chorus] But Rose was still my sister, Though no blood made it so. Some bonds are made by living, And they never let you go. Through all the changing seasons, One thing stayed like no other— After all these many years, Rose still calls me Little Brother. [Conversational Verse] Of course, back then, We always had those danged old Burnet boys Coming over to Marble Falls And snatching up our girls. One of them was Tommy. Tommy grabbed ahold of Rose— And it’s probably a good thing he did. Because those two went on To make a long and joyous life together. And somewhere along the way, Tommy became part of our lives too. [Sung Chorus] But Rose was still my sister, Though no blood made it so. Some bonds are made by living, And they never let you go. Through all the changing seasons, One thing stayed like no other— After all these many years, Rose still calls me Little Brother. [Conversational Verse] Rose has always been The go-to gal around Marble Falls. When I need to know something About what’s going on around the area, I call Rose. And I’m pretty sure A whole lot of other people do the same thing. Because Rose knows people. Rose knows what’s happening. But more than that— Rose gets things done. [Spoken Bridge] A lot of people pass through your life. Some stay for a little while, Then quietly disappear. But every once in a while, Someone finds a place in your family Without ever being born into it. That’s where Rose found her place. And she never left. [Final Sung Chorus] Yes, Rose is still my sister, Though no blood made it so. Some bonds are made by loving, And they strengthen as they grow. Through all the changing seasons, One thing stayed like no other— After all these many years, Rose still calls me Little Brother. [Spoken Ending] And you know what? To this very day, She still calls me— “Little Brother.” And somehow, It still seems like The most natural thing in the world.
