MERCY 027 – The Stopped Clock Doctrine | The Mercy

(Verse 1) They wore the clinic’s colours and answered every call, With patient hands and lowered eyes, they measured out the hall. Behind the tower’s service door, they counted wire and flame, Convinced the White had spared the world to finish it in shame. (Verse 2) Each carried someone Paled within the silence of the past, And grief became a doctrine when no comfort seemed to last. They said continuation only lengthened every cry, And mercy left unfinished meant the living ought to die. (Chorus) But every broken mourner is not waiting to betray, And every voice of doubt is not a hand that clears the way. They must defend the living without outlawing despair, Or save the clinic’s beating heart and kill what brought them there. (Verse 3) The radio kept naming births from settlements unseen, The clinic kept a fever ward and cultures cold and clean. The cell heard only cruelty in every child who grew, While healers stitched tomorrow from the little they still knew. (Verse 4) The guards could seal the grieving out and question every face, Turn sorrow into evidence and mercy into chase. Yet fear that hunts all doubters makes the Finisher’s lie strong, For people driven out of hope may learn where death belongs. (Chorus) But every broken mourner is not waiting to betray, And every voice of doubt is not a hand that clears the way. They must defend the living without outlawing despair, Or save the clinic’s beating heart and kill what brought them there. (Bridge) A stopped clock marked the moment they believed should never end, But time was kept by hands that chose to labour, heal and mend. The answer was not silence, nor a cell beneath the floor, But room for grief to speak its name without becoming war. (Outro) The tower called the scattered, and the clinic held the line, While watchers searched for murder without making sorrow sign. Humanity resisted not by purging every scar, But keeping broken people close and knowing what they are.
