[Verse 1] I found a crown in a box Under a broken chair It smelled like rain and dust And some old summer air I wore it for a laugh You said it fit me right Now every empty room Feels a little less quiet [Pre-Chorus] I was just passing through But you made it feel Like a small world Could turn real [Chorus] Cardboard crown, cardboard crown You got me grinning like a fool now Cardboard crown, cardboard crown (oh-oh) I wear it when you’re around Cardboard crown, cardboard crown A paper throne in a beat-up town Cardboard crown, cardboard crown (yeah-yeah) you lift me up, then pull me down [Verse 2] We taped it up with gold From a gum wrapper seam You laughed at the crooked sides I called it a dream It rained through the window screen We danced on the floor That little box of junk Meant something more [Pre-Chorus] Maybe that’s all love is A thing held tight A silly little kingdom Built in one night [Chorus] Cardboard crown, cardboard crown You got me grinning like a fool now Cardboard crown, cardboard crown (oh-oh) I wear it when you’re around Cardboard crown, cardboard crown A paper throne in a beat-up town Cardboard crown, cardboard crown (yeah-yeah) you lift me up, then pull me down [Bridge] If it bends, let it bend If it breaks, let it break I still keep the pieces For the joy they make One small crown One wild spark You and me In the dark [Chorus] Cardboard crown, cardboard crown You got me grinning like a fool now Cardboard crown, cardboard crown (oh-oh) I wear it when you’re around Cardboard crown, cardboard crown A paper throne in a beat-up town Cardboard crown, cardboard crown (yeah-yeah) you lift me up, then pull me down
