The Burning Bush

Far beyond the courts of Egypt, Far from Pharaoh, crown and throne, Moses drove the flock through Midian, Through the wilderness alone. There upon the mountain Horeb, Something burned against the night. Flames were climbing through the branches, Yet the bush remained alive. Moses turned aside to see it, Then a voice came through the flame: Moses! Moses! And he answered: HERE I AM! Come no closer! Bare your feet! Holy is the ground you stand! I am God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob! I have seen My people broken! I have heard My people cry! Now I send you Back to Egypt! Stand before the king And cry! LET MY PEOPLE GO! LET MY PEOPLE GO! Stand before the throne! LET MY PEOPLE GO! You will not stand alone! Pharaoh's crown Will bow before Me! Egypt's gods Will know My name! From the fire I have called you! GO! LET MY PEOPLE GO! Moses trembled at the calling: Who am I to face the king? Who am I to lead Your people? What answer shall I bring? When they ask me for Your name, What shall I say to them? I AM WHO I AM. LET MY PEOPLE GO! Stand before the throne! LET MY PEOPLE GO! You will not stand alone! I have seen them! I have heard them! I remember covenant! Take your staff And go to Egypt! Speak the words I give to you! LET! MY! PEOPLE! GO! Moses turned Toward Egypt. Behind him still The fire burned.
