Consumed by grief, she curses everything: her sacred oath, Kelemvor, the deceitful gods, and the entire cruel world. Though her own body is fatally torn apart, a sinister, pulsating tether between her and Carrion keeps her heart beating. She curses this unnatural stitch, pushing it aside to share a final moment with the child. With a tear-choked, trembling voice, Valeska sings her mother's ancient lullaby to Finn—tenderly adapted for the end of their tragic road. As the final note fades, pure agony turns to fury: she spins toward Carrion in the shadows, screaming in raw despair, demanding to know why the demon won't let her die and what purpose this endless suffering was ever meant to serve. -------------Lyrics-------------- [Intro] [A slow, suffocating funeral doom crawl—heavy dragged down-tuned guitars, a weeping solo cello, and an erratic, painful heartbeat] [Valeska's voice, raspy, bleeding, spitting venom and profound despair, all sung] Why won't you let me die? — WHY WON'T YOU LET ME DIE? — Curse the altar, curse the bell! Curse this consecrated hell! Curse the gods who watch above, Mocking every spark of love! Curse you, Kelemvor, blind and silent on your throne! You left your holy soldier broken and alone! [The rhythm drags into an agonizing, dissonant chord] My flesh is split... my marrow cold as lead... Yet something black and vile refuses me the dead... A phantom stitch... a parasitic tether in my vein... Carrion’s cruel needle keeping me in pain! I curse your rotten bond! I curse your wicked breath! ...Leave me... and let me have my death... [Interlude] [The heavy metal instruments drop out completely into total stillness. A single acoustic guitar begins to pick a slow, intimate melody, accompanied by a lonely, weeping cello] [Verse 1] [Voice: fragile, choked with tears, sobbing softly between lines, deeply melodic and gentle] The heavy iron falls away into the drift, No longer carrying the church's bloody gift. The mountain is silent, the frozen hall is dead, And I hold you in the snow where your innocent heart bled. Put down your heavy burden, don't cry anymore, The cold winter winds are sleeping at the door... [Chorus] [Tender, weeping clean vocals, voice trembling and breaking in profound grief, beautiful and heartbreaking] Sleep now, little spark, the night-wind will blow, While all the sweet rivers are singing so slow. The stars up above us are shining so bright, To watch over you through the dark of the night. No gods will find you, no monsters will peep, You are safe in my arms, so sleep... softly sleep. [Verse 2] [Gentle acoustic fingerpicking, warm cello harmonies weaving underneath, sung with a fragile, weeping whisper] The fire is resting beneath the fallen wood, We walked the bitter road as bravely as we could. The magic of your daylight has faded into rest, Like a wounded bird flying to its quiet nest. I'll wrap you in my cloak to shield you from the cold, The sweetest little soul I ever hoped to hold. [Chorus] [Voice breaking completely, weeping and sobbing while singing, deeply vulnerable] Sleep now, little spark, the night-wind will blow, While all the sweet rivers are singing so slow. The stars up above us are shining so bright, To watch over you through the dark of the night. No gods will hurt you, no monsters will peep, You are safe in my arms, so sleep... softly sleep. [Interlude] [A single acoustic guitar chord rings out softly, followed by a fragile, choked intake of breath against the microphone in absolute silence] [Outro] [Violent, explosive eruption of melodic post-black metal—blast beats, bleeding distorted riffs, frantic weeping cellos] [Valeska’s voice shifts violently from weeping tenderness to raw, agonizing, throat-tearing operatic screams of pure fury] WHY WON'T YOU LET ME DIE?! WHY KEEP MY BEATING HEART INSIDE THIS ROT?! CARRION! ANSWER FOR THE TRAGEDY YOU WROUGHT! Look at her blood upon my hands! Look at what we’ve done! Was this the glorious theater that you thought you won?! WHAT WAS THIS FOR?! WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS CAGE?! WHAT PURPOSE DOES IT SERVE TO TEAR ME PAGE BY PAGE?! WHY WON'T YOU LET ME GO?! WHY WON'T YOU LET ME REST?! WHY DRAG MY ROTTING SOUL THROUGH THIS CURSED TEST?! TELL ME! CARRION, TELL ME! [Massive, wall-of-sound doom chord crashes down and cuts dead into an abrupt, freezing void] [A single, ragged, furious gasp into absolute silence] [Fade out]
