Hell in paradise

I woke beneath a golden sky Crystal water, endless blue The jungle breathed beneath the sun I thought my darkest days were through I walked alone along the shore No fear, no blood, no war Then came a roar behind the trees A sudden silence through the leaves The daylight faded into black Something was moving at my back I ran until the sun went down With nothing but the sand around I tried to run I tried to hide But every road led back inside I found paradise I found hell A beautiful world With a story to tell I ran from the dark I ran from myself Every time I died I woke up again I found paradise I found hell And I don’t know If I’m alive or dreaming still I crossed the rivers, climbed the stone I learned to fight, I learned alone I watched the creatures hunt at night I learned that beauty could still bite I built a raft and faced the sea Believing I could still be free The waves grew black beneath my feet Something was moving in the deep I heard a roar beneath the blue… Then nothing. And I woke up… On the beach. Same ocean Same horizon Same golden light above the trees But every time I came back here A little less remained of me I tried the mountains I tried the sea I tried to find a way to leave The paradise I once admired Had become a cage without a gate I stopped running I stopped praying I stopped believing I’d escape I found paradise I found hell A beautiful world With a story to tell I ran from the dark I ran from myself Every time I died I woke up again I found paradise I found hell And I don’t know If I’m alive or dreaming still Maybe there’s no way out Maybe there never was No more running No more fighting I close my eyes… Then I hear a voice. “Hey… Can you hear me?” I open my eyes I see a fire I hear voices Survivors One of them walks toward me And slowly reaches out his hand I take it. I found paradise I found hell A beautiful world With a story to tell I ran from the dark I ran from myself Every time I died I woke up again I found paradise I found hell And I don’t know If I’m alive or dreaming still The ocean is still shining The jungle is still wild But someone is beside me. And for the first time… I smile.
