I’m not sure How we got here. But here we are. It seems the changes Aren’t coming. They are already here. And I’m not sure how I feel about The loss of creativity or The replacement of humanity I feel it’s slipping away Like blood From a deep wound. That we inflicted With hope that our Life force would stay protected We didn’t foresee The impact of a future Already here. And for the young I’m not sure how I feel Depressed I guess At the loss they have no idea They’ve suffered Because The change has all but consumed us And continues to thrive. And I am torn as an artist. I was taught to use tools As they exist all around us. But the tools I am handed are much more costly than o ever imagined. Costly to the ground and the water More so than a guitar and a pencil More so than the power of thought And imagination That are slipping away…. More and more each day. (Vocal Chorus) “The future is here, The future is now, The future is slaughtering Our sacred cows.” And what have we traded away For our phones and the leisure That fills every day? The importance of work and achievement Seems empty and useless today. (Achingly painful solo) I’m not sure How we got here. But here we are. It seems the changes Aren’t coming. They are already here. We didn’t foresee The impact of a future That caught most of us sleeping And is totally, painfully, tragically Already here. (Cello solo) (Vocal Chorus) “The future is here, The future is now, The future is slaughtering Our sacred cows.” The future is here, The future is now, The future is slaughtering Our sacred cows.” (Whispered quietly over silence) “The future is now.”
