Verse 1 Come, my son, now sit beside me You have grown so tall and strong And the road that lies before you Will be shaped by right and wrong Do not squander what is holy Do not sell your soul for less You were made to walk with wisdom You were made for faithfulness Verse 2 Do not let your eyes grow careless Do not let your spirit sleep There are burdens others carry There are wounds this world won’t keep There are those who go unnoticed There are voices rarely heard If you want to walk with honor Hold God's mercy in word Pre-Chorus Oh my son Remember who you are Do not trade your strength away For shadows that will only take you so far Chorus Open your mouth for the silent Stand for the weary and poor Do not let pleasure blind you To what your power is for Open your mouth with justice Let mercy stand at your side My son, as you grow and live Keep your eyes open wide Verse 3 Some are crushed beneath judgment Some are lost outside the door Some are aching in the shadows Waiting to be seen once more If the Lord should place you over Any land or any throne Let the burden make you gentler Till their need becomes your own Bridge Open your mouth For the ones who stand alone Open your mouth Make the cause of mercy known Not for glory Not for gain Not to lift up your name Rule with wisdom Stand with truth Let your strength be your loves proof Pre-Chorus Oh my son Remember who you are Do not trade your strength away For shadows that will only take you so far Chorus Open your mouth for the silent Stand for the weary and poor Do not let pleasure blind you To what your power is for Open your mouth with justice Let mercy stand at your side My son, as you grow and live Keep your eyes open wide Tag / Outro Oh my son Remember who you are Do not trade your strength away For shadows that will only take you so far Oh my son Remember who you are Remember who you are
