I am frost... I am stillness... The death-sleep of a world holding its breath They flee from my touch ("But without ending there is no beginning") White silence wraps around me like a crown These crystalline powers—my burden, my gift I've wandered cold lands where shadows drift Not evil, just necessary... Just alone I've seen fear in their eyes when they look my way As if winter wasn't just another season As if death wasn't just another reason To make room for what follows What always follows Then I found a valley where spring refused to die Where warmth reached out and touched my frozen hands Where a fox with blood-red eyes learned to play And I... found myself... questioning What if the cold I bring Isn't the end of things? What if my winter makes room for your spring? What if we're not opposed but the same flowing stream? What if... what if... what if I belong? What if I belong? An old woman with earth-eyes saw through my frost Her garden of forever-bloom defied my law But she didn't push me out—she saw Something in me worth keeping Worth teaching "Your killing cold is kind in its own way" "Clearing dead growth so new life finds its day" In her wisdom I found a truth long buried in snow That destruction can be love—the slowest form of growth Now I stand at the threshold where seasons collide Where children reach for claws that once brought only fright Where a fox with blood-red eyes basks in light And I... feel myself... awakening What if the cold I bring Isn't the end of things?
