Flash back to 93 [pause] it's Christmas time and all eyes are on me, head full of static, eyes wide full speed, gifts line the floor and the smell of pine is in the air. [pause. solo.] I run crashing full tilt into the presents before me that line the floor, there's stretch armstrong a crash test dummy car or two, in the back the batwing and the claw truck come through. [christmas solo] It's Christmas time in my youth, still untempered and touched by the yule tide too, there's ham in the oven as our family sits, they say Merry Christmas to all and to all a good day. [record scratch] break it down The moons still out and the winds a-blow, little tiny lights and their soft gentle glow, I open my eyes full of joy, what did Santa leave for me from his sack of toys? From out within my room my footsteps creek, I spot the Christmas tree in just a few feet, presents and stockings brimming with joy, cookies and milk laid out to enjoy, just a couple bites in and a glass half full and it was plain to see (chorus) Santa has come and gone I shout throughout the house as my excitement builds, he was here, he was actually here. I look around with blinding joy and then I kick it to the deck outside. There was nothing left and there was nothing to show, just a starry sky and the pale soft glow of the snow. I rush to my mom and scream out loud, Christmas is here, it's time to go! My mom stops snoring and my dad just huffs. "In a few minutes boy, I have to wake up." Down the hall I dash in a Christmas flash where I sat down and wait. [christmas solo] My memory of Christmas keeps me afloat. Whenever I'm down I think back to those days and I tell myself it will be okay. The world is burning and that's the truth, but this is the time of year we love most so grab your holly and deck your halls because the spirit of christmas lies deep inside us all. I often think back to those days of my youth, where the world still sucked but I was happy and safe. Now I got my own kids to raise and each day I hope they feel the same. To see them smile and to see them grow, I know it'll be my job to let them go but in this moment they're here, and that's all I need. Memories of Christmas and memories of love, watching my oldest outpace me, it's rough. My youngest is growing much too fast and they're sister is always full of sass, but time keeps on moving, leaving me in its dust. And yet through it all, these festive moments endear, they help me continue and they help me understand that in the end, Christmas will always be here. [christmas outro solo] As the world marches on, the spirit is still there.
