THE PRISON HAD NO BARS 🔒 SILL-E [Intro – Spoken] Yeah… I spent years looking for the key… Never realized I was the one holding the door shut. No bars. No chains. No guard. Just me… And everything I was afraid to become. ⸻ [Verse 1] The prison had no bars, just walls inside my head, Every “you can’t” became a brick around my bed, Fear was my warden, doubt was doing night shift, I wore my own chains like they came with a life sentence. I had dreams in a cell that I built out of excuses, Every door was open, but my mind kept producing Reasons I should stay, reasons I shouldn’t try, I was scared of falling so I never learned to fly. Expectations put pressure like a ceiling getting lower, Trying to be everybody’s version of a soldier, I became what they expected, lost track of what I wanted, Smiling on the outside while my spirit felt haunted. Addiction ain’t always a substance—it can be attention, Ego, money, validation, needing everybody’s acceptance, Anything you can’t let go of eventually owns you, A prison doesn’t need bars when the prisoner controls you. ⸻ [Hook] 🔒 The prison had no bars, But I couldn’t find my way, I kept asking God for freedom While I chose to stay. Fear had me locked down, Regret had me on parole, Then God opened up the door I thought was guarding my soul. ⸻ [Verse 2] I had trauma in the basement, memories upstairs, Past knocking on the windows like, “You still scared?” I tried burying the pain, but the roots grew deeper, Every secret I concealed became another silent speaker. I wore anger like a jacket, kept it zipped to the neck, Thought forgiveness meant forgetting every piece of disrespect, God said, “Forgive doesn’t mean pretend it never happened, It means you stop letting yesterday determine what happens.” I was chained to opinions from people who never knew me, Trying to prove my worth to people who couldn’t see through me, I chased validation till I ran out of breath, Then God asked, “Why are you asking prisoners to define your freedom?” That’s when something changed. I stopped asking, “Who am I to them?” Started asking… “Who am I to God?” And suddenly every wall started looking like a shadow. ⸻ [Hook] The prison had no bars, But I couldn’t find my way, I kept asking God for freedom While I chose to stay. Fear had me locked down, Regret had me on parole, Then God opened up the door I thought was guarding my soul. ⸻ [Verse 3 – Freestyle] Now I’m walking through the hallway with no ceiling above me, Used to think nobody cared—God was right there trying to love me, I was counting all my failures, He was counting every breath, I was calling it a sentence, He was calling it a test. I don’t need revenge, I need release, Don’t need everybody’s approval, I need peace, Don’t need to erase my past, I need to learn from it, Don’t need to hide my scars, I need to stop running from ’em. I was locked inside a mindset, Key sitting in my palm, I was praying for a rescue While Heaven was saying, “Come.” I thought freedom meant everything would finally go my way, God showed me freedom means trusting Him when it doesn’t. That’s faith. That’s walking when you can’t see. That’s believing when the evidence looks different. That’s knowing… God is bigger than the walls. So let the old me stay in that cell, I’m not going back to visit, The door ain’t made of iron— It’s made of every fear I finally finished. And if tomorrow tries to rebuild the walls around my soul, I’ll remember what God taught me: The walls were never stronger than Him. They were only stronger than my belief. ⸻ [Bridge – Spoken / Build] Fear said, “Stay.” God said, “Move.” Doubt said, “You can’t.” God said, “Trust Me.” My past said, “You’re finished.” God said… “I’M NOT DONE.” ⸻ [Final Hook] The prison had no bars, And now I’m walking free, I thought I needed somebody To come rescue me. Fear lost its authority, Regret released control, God didn’t have to break the prison… He just had to wake my soul. The prison had no bars… No chains… No walls… Just a mind that forgot who made it. ⸻ [Outro] I spent years asking God, “Lord, when are You gonna set me free?” He said… “I already did.” I just had to stop calling the cage my home. No bars. No chains. No prison. Just faith. SILL-E.
