(Spoken Word) Here we are again at the crossroads. Bill’s neighbour is someone we’re looking into. What’s his deal? Where does he work? What’s his connection to Bill? Is Bill being coerced? What’s going on? ……better sit down….. Verse 1 When I showed up to see Bill, he seemed distant, Like afraid of who was listening, But I don’t think Bill is a saint! Sure, he could be under duress, We need to learn more. He seems apprehensive, can’t really speak, Especially in front of his neighbour, Not knowing what he can endure. Verse 2 Bill’s neighbour, his name’s Jim Sikes, Studied at Berkeley, graduated at the top of his class, Was let go for questionable procedures. Yikes! He’s working at a diner now! That’s a big step down, Laying low, low on the radar? We’ll have to pay him a visit at work, I say, with a furrowed brow. Verse 3 Visit the diner, present my badge, Looking for Jim Sikes, I need to speak with him. “I’m sorry,” she says, “Jim only works three days a week. He’s not working today, but you just missed him!” “Oh,” I say. “Was he alone?” “No,” she says. “He was with his neighbour, Bill.” “Did they say where they were going?” “They said something about looking down over something, Like on a hill.” A hill? Looking down? Like a burial site? I think in my head! Verse 4 We haven’t found all the bodies, I’m sure. Not all were staged, Set up the way we’re finding them. Maybe Bill is still training Jim, Or maybe Jim has Bill in a position he can’t escape from. Either way, we need to find this hill, This outlook, where they are. They didn’t leave that long ago, Couldn’t have gotten far. Verse 5 Jim’s parents lived on a farm, At the top of a hill. Let’s find out, Are they there? What are they doing? What’s their plan? Maybe we’ll find out, Things we’ll figure out, Maybe what happened to Stan. Oh, this tangled web we weave, This doesn’t sound good. So much of this case I knew, Thought I understood. Verse 6 I find the farm, Drive in slowly, I look around. I see someone standing there! Who is that? All I can see is his back. I get out of my car, Walk up behind the man. “Turn around slowly,” I say, My gun drawn. He turns slowly. Oh my God… It’s Stan. Verse 7 “Stan?” I say. “I was told you were dead.” “That’s what I wanted. Not to be here!” “Where’s William at, Jim?” “Oh, they’re here,” he says. “Off doing their thing.” “Have you figured it out yet?” Stan says. “Not exactly, since you’re here.” “So yes, Bill was my student. I thought he did things, terrible things. I needed to make this right. I started all of this. William was a good kid, But not anymore. Then he enlisted Jim, And I knew things had gone really badly. I realized what I had done. It needed to end.” “So where are they now?” “They’re hanging out in the back…” “From a tree!” “You killed them both?” “Indeed. After what they’d shown me, What they had done because of me.” “So this is where they’re all buried… The ones you never found. So many buried in the ground.”
