Verse 1 He woke up to the morning light Stockings hanging, shining bright Mama’s by the coffee pot, daddy winks his way Wrapping paper on the floor But there’s one box near the door With a little red bow that’s kinda shaking where it lay Tiny whimper, tiny scratch Little heartbeat, little patch Of golden fur and floppy ears just trying to be brave When that cardboard lid came wide Two brown eyes looked up inside And the whole world changed right there on Christmas Day Chorus Now it’s snowflakes on their noses, paw prints in the snow Giggles on the front porch where the cold winds blow A boy and his new puppy, learning each other’s name Chasing dreams around the yard like it’s a holiday parade From this Christmas morning, nothing feels the same ‘Cause a little tail wagged its way into his heart today Verse 2 They tumble down the hallway fast Ornaments and laughter last He shares his blanket, shares his cocoa, even shares his toast Puppy trips on tinsel strands Chews the mittens off his hands Mama shakes her head but smiles like she loves this most By the window, side by side Watching carols sung outside He whispers, “You’re my present, I’ll protect you, little friend.” On the couch by candle glow They both drift off soft and slow To the quiet kind of joy that never really ends Chorus Now it’s snowflakes on their noses, paw prints in the snow Giggles on the front porch where the cold winds blow A boy and his new puppy, learning each other’s name Chasing dreams around the yard like it’s a holiday parade From this Christmas morning, nothing feels the same ‘Cause a little tail wagged its way into his heart today Bridge Years from now when he’s grown tall He’ll still remember through it all That Christmas when the ribbon fell and life got a new friend Not the toys or video games But the way that tiny frame Made the whole wide world feel safe and warm again Chorus (lifted) Snowflakes on their noses, paw prints on his heart Every Christmas after, they’re never far apart A boy and his new puppy, under twinkling lights that fade Running through his memories like a holiday parade From that Christmas morning, everything had changed ‘Cause a little tail wagged its way into his heart that day Outro Under the tree and by the fire’s glow Two shadows dancing in the falling snow A boy and his puppy, come what may Forever started on Christmas Day.
