[Intro — piano waltz with pedal steel; fiddle joins as the band settles into 3/4] [Verse 1] Kids were stayin’ at their granddad’s, We had supper just for two. She was reachin’ for the dish rag; I said, “I’ve got plans for you.” She looked up across the counter, Gave me half a crooked smile. I moved two chairs against the wall And found some music on the dial. [Chorus] A Saturday we could afford, Your bare feet on our kitchen floor. A little sway, a little spin, You kissed me like you did back then. We let that station play till late, Found what we’d been workin’ for: An evenin’ spent just bein’ us— A Saturday we could afford. [Turnaround — fiddle with a soft piano answer] [Verse 2] You said, “You still count out the footwork.” I said, “Only when it’s slow.” You said, “After all these years together, You’d think those boots would know.” Then you laid your head against me; I quit worryin’ where I’d step. Had the woman I’d been missin’ In the arms she’d never left. [Chorus] A Saturday we could afford, Your bare feet on our kitchen floor. A little sway, a little spin, You kissed me like you did back then. We let that station play till late, Found what we’d been workin’ for: An evenin’ spent just bein’ us— A Saturday we could afford. [Instrumental — eight bars; pedal steel leads, fiddle answers] [Bridge — ease back to piano, acoustic guitar, and bass] Tomorrow we’d be up at daylight, Same old list of things to do. Tonight I asked you for one more dance. You said, “I’ve got time for two.” [Final Chorus — full band returns; warm harmonies] A Saturday we could afford, Your bare feet on our kitchen floor. A little sway, a little spin, You kissed me like you did back then. We let that station play till late, Found what we’d been workin’ for: An evenin’ spent just bein’ us— A Saturday we could afford. [Tag — gently; hold the final phrase] We took the long way down the hall On a Saturday we could afford. [Outro — piano and fiddle reprise the chorus; pedal steel settles into a soft full band ending] © 2026 Redneck Muslim. All rights reserved.
